  Harbin FRP Institute (the Institute), founded in 1960, is one of the first professional institutions in China that have long been engaged in the research and application of resin matrix composites. It is the unit the National Resin Matrix Composite Engineering Center relies on and the vice chairman unit of the National Fiber Reinforced Plastics Standardization Committee. Moreover, Harbin FRP Institute is also one of the first 100 scientific research institutes with the import and export rights approved by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, PRC. and the State Scientific and Technological Commission. Originally, it was directly under the State Bureau of Building Materials Industry. In July 1999, as one of the 242 scientific research institutes belonging to ten national bureaus under the administration of the State Economic and Trade Commission, Harbin FRP Institute was transformed and entered China Building Materials (Group) Corp. It is a solely state-owned scientific and technological enterprise with the status of an independent legal person.

  Now, Harbin FRP Institute has more than 600 employees, including state council experts for special allowance, provincial and ministry-level young and middle-aged experts, professor senior engineers, senior engineers and other types of engineers and technicians enjoying, and has formed a perfect ladder step-type R&D, production, operation and management team.

  Harbin FRP Institute is equipped with advanced technology facilities, test and analysis instruments. It has imported cutting-edge winding machines, pultrusion machines, hot-melting pre-impregnation machines and other devices as well as a series of raw material analysis devices, process control instruments and structure testing instruments from Germany, the USA, Japan, Britain and other countries. It features strong abilities in the research of raw material, molding technologies, structure design, standardization, large-scale production technologies, processing equipment and manufacturing. Over the years, it has been undertaking the key national technology research projects, such as the “863 Program” and national major projects and has won over 70 national, provincial and ministry-level awards in succession, including four second prizes for National Scientific and Technological Progress. Harbin FRP Institute has developed, designed and made a variety of composite material molding devices independently, and succeeded in the research of different sizes of barrel-type, ball-type, and ring-type pressure vessels, tubes, tanks, and other winding products, as well as advanced composite material structural parts with high performance, subway track shields, corrosion-resistant platforms and other pultrusion products, SMC die pressing water tanks, and electric meter boxes.

  The Institute boasts a complete range of professional supporting facilities. It has advanced structural analysis workstations, infrared chemical analysis rooms, structural laboratories, large imported winding machines, non-destructive inspection devices, CMM precision measuring instruments and other cutting-edge devices and instruments; and also owns a number of high-quality professional technology and management personnel. the Institute is always in a leading position in terms of the research and development of fiber winding technology, pultrusion technology, the molding technology of advanced composite materials and high-performance thermoplastic composites, the massive production of composite materials, and special equipment for composites. Over the years, Harbin FRP Institute has long been undertaking major national scientific research plan tasks and the scientific research and production tasks of national key weapon models and its supporting products are involved in many fields including aerospace, aviation, shipping, weapons, and nuclear industry.

  Furthermore, the Institute has established a sound product quality management system and a confidentiality management system. It passed the certifications of GJB9001A-2001 and GB / T9001-2000 quality management systems in the year 2004; and the second level confidentiality certification of Heilongjiang Confidentiality Qualification Examination Certification Committee in 2006.

  Early in 1984, the Institute officially founded the publicly issued technical journal Fibrous Composite, which mainly publishes thesis on the new material, new technology, new process, new equipment, new design and processing of the composite industry; follows to report the latest research direction and new product development information in the field of composites at home and abroad; and introduces the product information and development trend of well-known enterprises at home and abroad at the same time, having made positive contributions to promoting the technological progress in the composite industry.

  The Institute has collected more than 40,000 volumes of books in Chinese and other languages, including 10,000-plus volumes of technology books and periodicals in English, Russia, Japanese, and other foreign languages. The total value of these books is up to 3 million yuan.
